ABOUT STEVE QUINN

Double bronze in the first
Commonwealth championships 1985
I'm a former England international. I made the top eight in Europe in kata and was a Commonwealth bronze medalist in both kata and kumite. Nationally I took medals in kata and kumite in teams and as an individual in a competition career that spanned two decades. I no longer have any interest in competing. All my time and effort is now spent teaching and learning.

My former teachers include Stan Dyson, Peter Denis and Ticky Donovan OBE.

Dave Hazard is one of my current mentors and I turn to him for anything I need to know about the Shotokan kata. He is a dynamic character who can entertain as well as teach.

English Karate Governing Body kata champion 1995

I've been successful both as a competitor and a coach.

I was the E.K.G.B. kata champion from 1992 until 1996 and a number of my current students currently compete sucessfully at national level.

European kata championships - Italy 1995
I've had the honour of representing my country on a number of occasions, such as here, where I was performing kata in Italy.
A head level kick in competition
I enjoyed my competition career enormously, and was fortunate to compete at a high level.
Another head kick!
Steve Quinn and Ticky Donovan OBE c1988
I owe Ticky Donovan a great deal for improving my performance as a competitor and my confidence as a teacher.

Steve Quinn and Kyoshi Patrick McCarthy - November 2003
Kyoshi Patrick McCarthy is world-reknowned for his extensive knowledge of kata bunkai and martial arts history. He's like a walking encyclopedia and is a master in multiple disciplines. I wish I could train with him more often. Unfortunately he's based in Australia so I have to make do with his videos, seminars and the Internet.
